Student Recognition Program Overview
Every month, since the end of 1996, Siu Lum Martial Arts Academy selects two students who are named Students of the Month. Their names are engraved on a gold plate and displayed on plaques that are displayed on the walls of the Academy They are chosen for a number of reasons, such as for assisting with the classes, outstanding attendance, a strong work ethic, performance in tournaments, and for going above and beyond the call of duty in helping with the Academy.
Each year, Siu Lum Martial Arts Academy selects one very special student who is named Student of the Year and presents this student with the Shu-lin Sun Award. This award pays tribute to students who have shown outstanding character, loyalty, ability as martial artists, and for being a role model to the rest of the students of the Academy. This trophy, named after our Grandmaster, is the highest award given by the Academy.
In 1999, it was decided a second award should be given. Having so many students who are deserving of the Student of the Year it has always been difficult to select only one person. For this reason, the Academy presents the Spirit Award. This award is given to students who have proven themselves to be pillars of the school. Students who not only conduct themselves with honor within the school but who have also contributed so much to the Academy behind the scenes while often refusing to take credit. However so, credit must be given where it is due and the Spirit Award honors these individuals.
As with the Wall Of Fame, the Students of the Month, Year, and Spirit Award winners are forever enshrined and remembered for how they contributed to the success of the Academy. And now it is my pleasure to present to you these individuals and congratulate each one of them for their achievements.
